River Rendezvous at Marietta, Ohio

On Sunday Morning, we walked to Harmar Village and the Harmar Tavern for breakfast.  Harmar Village is an historic town across the Muskingom River, and the site of Fort Harmar, established in 1785 to protect Indians from encroaching settlers.

An 828 foot rotating railroad bridge was built over the Muskingum in 1859 connecting Harmar and Marietta. Today the bridge is a pedestrian walk-way.  Conveniently, the bridge is next to the Marietta Harbor Marina, only a block or two from the Lafayette Hotel.

If you'd rather drive, it's about a 5 minute drive via the Putnam Street Bridge.

Harmar Village
Harmar Village, like Marietta, is the site of shops and historic buildings.  You could spend the afternoon sightseeing.

Our group, however, was in the "water mode"!

We hopped on our boats or jet-skis and headed out to the island where we stopped Saturday morning.

We "pulled up" and "laid back"!

We had just enough "goodies" left for a light picnic.

That's about it for now.  Look for updates as we approach the District 7 River Rendezvous, planned for August 11-13, 2006.

District Lt Commander Bob Fish, JN, and his wife, Lt/Cdr Barb, will be chairing the event.

We'll add more on the great museums and other attractions in the area, as well !
