River Rendezvous at Marietta, Ohio

We took a trip "down river" to Blennerhassett Island, just past Parkersburg.  You just pull up on the sandy beach on the "up river" side of the island, climb the steps, and step back into history.

Harman Blennerhassett, a wealthy Irish aristocrat, settled on this wilderness island in 1798, where he built a magnificent mansion. The 7,000 square foot house contained furniture purchased in London and Baltimore, oriental carpets, oil paintings, and porcelain made in Paris. It was one of the most elegant estates in Virginia and was the most beautiful home west of the Alleghenies

Some of our group tour the historic mansion
All that walking made us hungry.  We had a picnic on the beach at Blennerhassett, with each of our boats contributing to the "pot luck" feast.

In addition to the food, the time was right to enjoy the water ... again
Akron's Exec Officer, Bob Ball, and his wife Patti, brought their Jet skis.  Here, members of our group take them for a spin...
Mid Ohio Valley's Commander, Ray Foss, had arranged for a banquet at the Lafayette that night.  We had to head back up river for the dinner -- we were expecting the new Commander from Kanawha River Provisional Power Squadron, Maureen Burdette, and other guests and dignitaries !
